quick ideas about the family. What is the family? How does it arise? Is it good for the family to be large?
1. What is a family?
A family can be described as the group of people that form a marriage and their children. In a broad sense, any association is called a family, especially if a cordial atmosphere prevails. However, in such cases a partial good is usually sought — sporting, musical... — while the family in the precise sense desires the general good of its members as persons.
2. As persons?
In other societies a person is valued for some quality. In the family, members love one another for belonging to the family, regardless of their qualities or behavior; (dignity).
3. Should parents allow any behavior?
No, no. They must encourage good actions and correct bad ones. But this correction is done precisely by seeking the good of the child, who is loved with their defects. These are defects that should be reduced for the good of all. On the other hand, parents should not intervene in every mistake, since excessive strictness would be counterproductive. Sometimes tolerance must be applied.
4. How does a family arise?
The family has its origin in human nature, which desires the survival of individuals and the species. In this way, there is a natural inclination toward marriage, procreation and education of children. The family is the natural setting for the harmonious development of the human person.
5. Is the family the best environment for human growth?
The human heart needs to love and be loved. The best environment for the development of man is a place where a person is appreciated and can help others. And since human beings have defects, the best environment includes loving and being loved regardless of defects. This happens in the family. Especially in large families, where the aspect of loving others can be more fully exercised.
6. Is it good for the family to be large?
It is good for each family to have the children that God wishes to grant them. In general it is better for it to be large, but the answer depends on the viewpoint:
- From the economic and comfort perspective, a large family creates problems, until the children grow up.
- For society, it is better for many people to be born, as there will be more people building up the country. A nation without children becomes extinct.
- For the children, it is better to grow up surrounded by siblings, since they learn many social and coexistence skills. In this sense, the minimum recommended number of children would be three, since the relationship between only two persons provides different social habits than those of a larger group. Obviously, a family with a greater number of children will allow a broader social exercise.
- For parents, a numerous offspring is better, as it prolongs their parenthood and their youth. Children bring great joy.
- For the marriage, a large family is beneficial, since children free from selfishness and bring stability to the marriage.
7. What if no children come?
8. Is adoption a good idea?
There is no fixed answer, but it depends on each situation. The good of the family and of the adopted child must be considered.
