Januarius and Pantaleon
quick ideas about the miracles of Saint Januarius and Saint Pantaleon. What happens? Scientific studies.
1. Do saints work miracles?
They do so by praying to God for us. This intercession has been abundant throughout history and is very well documented, above all in the cases used as proof in the canonization of saints. The miracles of Saint Januarius and Saint Pantaleon are not the most important but allow a current verification.
SAINT JANUARIUS (Naples)
2. Where?
Saint Januarius was martyred in the year 305, dying by beheading. His body and his head were later transferred to the cathedral of Naples. A little of his blood is preserved there in a sealed glass vessel, held by a metal reliquary that allows a clear view. Normally the blood is a solid dark mass.
3. What is the miracle of Saint Januarius?
The miracle that repeats itself every year consists in the blood becoming liquid, shortly after placing the vessel next to the relics of Saint Januarius himself.
4. When does it happen?
It can be seen eighteen times a year, which are the occasions when the vessel and the bust with the saint's head are placed in view on the altar. On these dates: the Saturday before the first Sunday of May and the following eight days; 19 September (Saint Januarius) and during its octave; sometimes 16 December.
5. Scientific analyses?
The event has been repeating for 400 years and has been very studied. The following has been verified:
- The time it takes to become liquid varies and does not depend on the external temperature.
- It liquefies in different ways. Sometimes it bubbles and its color becomes bright red. At other times the color is more opaque and the liquid somewhat thick.
- When it solidifies again it may change in volume. Sometimes it fills the vessel; at other times it occupies half. In these cases its weight also changes with a verified difference of up to 28 gr.
1. Where?
In the monastery of the Incarnation of the Augustinian Recollects, a glass vessel with the blood of Saint Pantaleon, martyr in the year 305, is preserved.
2. What is the miracle of Saint Pantaleon?
1700 years have passed since his martyrdom and every year his blood becomes liquid on 26 July. Sometimes it has taken time to solidify, signaling some evil. For example, during the two World Wars.
