Miracle of Lanciano
quick ideas about the Eucharistic miracle of Lanciano. The event and the scientific analyses.
1. Are there many Eucharistic miracles?
Hundreds of Eucharistic miracles of various types are known: the conversion of bread into flesh, the preservation of the sacred Hosts for centuries, the healing of the sick at the passage of the Eucharist, etc. All of them serve to reinforce faith in the Eucharist. The Lanciano miracle is a famous miracle that can be verified today.
2. What happened?
We are in the 8th century, in the Italian town of Lanciano. There the newly consecrated sacred Host was converted into flesh and the wine into blood, which soon coagulated into five unequal pieces. And thus they continue today, visible to all.
3. The scientific investigation?
In 1970, two scientists were commissioned to analyze them, and a summary of their response is as follows.
- The Flesh and the Blood are human; the Flesh is from a heart.
- The Flesh and Blood of Lanciano are from a living person — not from a corpse. The result corresponds to that of blood extracted on the very day the analysis is made. (1,200 years have passed.)
- Each clot of Blood weighs exactly the same as all five together.
4. Were there subsequent analyses in Lanciano?
In 1973, the World Health Organization conducted many tests confirming the above. In 1991 the analyses were repeated, obtaining the same conclusions.
