Spiritism
quick ideas about spiritism. Can one speak with spirits? Is spiritism an offense against God?
1. Can one speak with spirits?
It is good to speak frequently with good spirits (the souls in purgatory, the angels and saints in heaven). To speak with them it is enough to address words or thoughts to them directly. It is very beneficial to ask for their help, their counsel, and to beg them to intercede for us before God. With demons and the damned, on the other hand, one should have no dealings at all.
2. In spiritist meetings, does one speak with someone?
In many cases it is only a matter of human imagination and the skill of the organizer. In more dangerous instances, demons may intervene, seeking harm for human beings.
3. Do good spirits speak at those meetings?
Angels and saints do not lend themselves to this type of practice, which is opposed to the faith. They are free beings and are not obliged to speak even if strange words or gestures are used.
4. Is spiritism an offense against God?
Spiritism practiced seriously is a type of sin for several more or less present reasons:
- One claims to possess superhuman powers of dominion over spirits. It resembles the proud sin of Adam and Eve who disobeyed God because they wanted to be "like gods."
- There is distrust of God and his Providence, wanting to know the future. The divine Goodness is doubted.
- The protection of occult powers is sought, scorning divine help, as if other powers were superior to God or better than him. And nobody is better than God.
