Work with meaning

Working only for money or recognition falls short in the end, even when both things are necessary. Tiredness comes just the same, and any difficulty seems absurd if everything revolves around yourself. Work gains depth when it becomes service: supporting a family, helping a client, forming someone, solving a problem, or contributing to the common good. Even a modest task can improve the world nearby in a way that perhaps no one measures. For a Christian there is yet another dimension: working with God in the midst of creation and offering him the daily effort. You do not need to do extraordinary things. You need to do what is at hand with love, striving for the work to draw you closer to God and make life kinder for others.
