Why are there dogmas?

A dogma is not there to complicate faith or to switch off intelligence. It is there to express an important truth with clarity and avoid confusing errors. When the Church defines something, she does not lock God inside a phrase. She protects a received truth so that it can be believed, prayed, and lived without distortion. The word may sound technical, but the idea is simple: certain central truths need to be formulated carefully so as not to end up saying the opposite of Christian faith.
