When your enthusiasm wears off
The excitement of the beginning doesn't last forever, and that's okay.
You start something with a lot of enthusiasm: a degree, a job, a relationship, a resolution to pray more. At first everything is exciting. Then, without anything serious happening, the emotion fades. And the doubt comes: if I don't feel it anymore, maybe it wasn't for me?
It happens to everyone, even to people who have gone very far. Blessed Alvaro del Portillo admitted, shortly after saying yes to God, that his enthusiasm had worn off. He didn't give up.
Human drive comes and goes, and there's nothing wrong with that. Good decisions aren't held up only by what you feel, but by what you chose and why you chose it. Joy often comes back, deeper, to those who keep going when it no longer thrills them.
Key idea
Losing your enthusiasm doesn't mean you made a mistake.
Your challenge for this idea
Today, keep going with something you started excitedly and now find hard, remembering why you chose it.
