When love doesn't come naturally, start by wanting to love

Mark as read

Sometimes the first act of love is desiring that one day it comes genuinely.

There are moments when you do not feel affection, patience, or a desire to get close. Demanding an immediate emotion from yourself can lead to pretending; waiting passively for it to appear can leave the relationship abandoned. "Wanting to love" opens an intermediate step. You do not yet have your heart where you would like, but you can ask for help, avoid feeding contempt, and make a small gesture that prepares the ground. Not every bond must be maintained, nor is every closeness safe. When the duty to love is clear, that second desire prevents turning the lack of feeling into a final verdict. The heart is also educated through honest, repeated decisions.

Key idea

When affection is missing, you can start by wanting to learn to love and acting consistently with that desire.

Your challenge for this idea

For a person you find hard to love, ask today to want to love them and make a good and prudent gesture.
