Vocation requires simplicity

You want to know the entire plan before taking a single step. You analyze every coincidence and constantly fear making a mistake unless a spectacular certainty appears. In the end, the whole search revolves around itself. A vocation usually becomes clearer through prayer, reality, counsel, and service. God can use striking events, but also ordinary abilities, nearby needs, and a joy that perseveres. Simplicity attends to that whole without turning every single emotion into a coded message. Discerning continues to require time and prudence. It does not mean choosing the first thing that appears or ignoring difficulties. It means responding to the good you already understand while the larger question remains open. The light for the road usually reaches only the next step, rather than illuminating every mile all at once.
