Sin is understood through forgiveness

One can speak of sin out of fear, like someone reviewing a list of faults to feel guilty. But that is not the right door. Sin is truly understood by looking at a God who forgives, not a lurking judge. In the light of mercy, recognizing what you do wrong stops dragging you down. It is rather realizing how far a love reaches that does not give up on you, forgiving whenever you return. That is why looking at your faults does not have to leave you worse off. Looked at rightly, it leads to an unexpected place: the wonder of knowing you are loved right where you least deserve it.
