The sign of the cross says who God is

"In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit." You do it upon entering a church, perhaps before meals or at the start of the day... and almost always without thinking. Yet within that gesture fits the entire creed: you say who God is and place yourself under his name, marked with the cross that saved you. The first Christians crossed themselves when starting anything: work, a journey, a meal. It was not an amulet: it was remembering in two seconds whose you are and whom you walk with. A gesture made in a hurry wears out and turns into a tic. Done slowly, it resets you: there is Someone before, during, and after whatever you are going to do.
