Rebuilding a relationship starts with a question
After being hurt, sometimes the first question isn't "Why did you do it?"
When someone has let us down, or we've let someone down, we usually start with the verdict: what happened, whose fault it was, who has to apologize first. And the conversation turns into a trial with two lawyers.
Sometimes it does need talking through, of course. But many relationships are rebuilt sooner with another question: "Do we still care about each other?" A message, a coffee, a gesture that says "you matter to me" opens more doors than ten arguments.
From there, everything else can be talked about calmly. First the affection is recovered; then things get cleared up.
Key idea
A broken relationship begins to be rebuilt when people talk about love again, not just about blame.
Your challenge for this idea
If you have a damaged relationship, take a step today that says "you matter to me", even if something is still left to clear up.
