Marriage and celibacy don't compete

Some people are called to marriage and others to give their lives in celibacy. Neither path is the prize with the other as the backup plan: both lead to holiness and have Christ as their goal. Comparing them as if they were competing distorts both. Marriage isn't a less spiritual option, and celibacy isn't being left without love. Each vocation has its gifts, its renunciations and its way of serving. The important question isn't which one looks better from outside, but where God is calling you to learn to love.
