Less intensity, more fidelity
Not everything of value is sustained by strong emotion.
Christian discipline does not seek to live with feelings always ablaze. It seeks to remain in the good when emotion dips and tasks become routine.
Life is built more with small fidelities than with spectacular bursts. Praying, working, serving, and caring for relationships usually depend less on intensity and more on persevering love.
Discipline plays out in quite ordinary things: the body, the schedule, and those small daily yeses. Often what is important is not spectacular: starting on time, cutting out an excess, finishing something, or fulfilling an obligation even when you no longer feel like it.
Key idea
Daily fidelity is worth more than brilliant impulses.
