How to finish what you start

Mark as read

Starting brings excitement, but finishing builds character.

Leaving tasks half-done seems minor, but it clutters your mind with noise and weakens your self-confidence. Every abandoned promise teaches your will that it can escape when novelty fades or fatigue sets in. Perseverance does not mean finishing absolutely everything. Sometimes prudence suggests changing course. But when a task is worthwhile, you have to push through the unglamorous parts: reviewing, correcting, tidying, and closing properly. The spiritual life also grows like this. Holiness is rarely built on intense emotional bursts, but on small duties fulfilled out of love. Finishing an assignment, even if nobody sees it, can be a genuine way to serve God and others.
