The home also educates parents

Mark as read

Raising children does not only form them: it brings to light who their parents are learning to be.

Fatherhood and motherhood are often imagined as a task of already prepared adults who teach those who are just beginning. Reality is more humble: children reveal impatiences, fears, and capacities for dedication that their parents perhaps did not know they had. Every stage forces one to learn anew. What worked with a small child might not serve with an adolescent. Educating demands authority, but also the capacity to ask for forgiveness, revise a rule, and recognize that the child possesses a personality and a mission that do not belong to the parents. The home grows when no one considers themselves finished. Parents guide from their real responsibility, not from a supposed perfection. Their example becomes more credible when children see that they too struggle, rectify, and allow themselves to be transformed by everyday love.

Key idea

Family education is a process of growth for both children and parents.

Your challenge for this idea

Ask your child or a close relative today what gesture of yours helps them and which hinders living together; listen without defending yourself.
