A great vocation fits into today's duty
Dreaming of future dedication does not excuse you from doing what is due now well.
Stanislaus Kostka felt an intense calling to religious life, but his peers also remembered him as an orderly student who was exact in his duties. His future did not serve as an excuse to neglect the present. Sometimes a vocation excites you so much that you turn your current life into a waiting room.
You fantasize about what you will do for God while half-heartedly studying, arriving late, or treating those around you poorly. That inconsistency also provides information. A true calling begins to take shape today. Constancy, service, and well-done work do not delay your vocation: they prepare the person capable of sustaining it when the time comes.
