God does not compete with your happiness

Sometimes it may seem that following God means losing life, freedom, or joy. But that idea often stems from seeing God as a limit rather than as a Father. God does not compete with your happiness. He teaches you to distinguish what shines for a moment from what truly does you good. God does not compete with the true goods of your life. He orders them and gives them a deeper measure, so that you do not ask of them what they can never give you on their own.
