Faith

The faith of others can sustain your doubt

Mark as read

When you do not see clearly, you do not always have to walk alone.

In O Cebreiro, the simple faith of a peasant contrasts with the doubt of the priest. In other accounts, a community, two monks, or a witness help someone whose faith has become fragile. There are moments when you cannot produce certainty by sheer will. Isolating yourself usually makes the question bounce around without rest. Asking for company does not mean living on borrowed faith forever; it means accepting support while you look again. The Church is also that: people sustaining one another at different times. Today someone can lend you their patience, their prayer, or their reasons. Tomorrow it may be you who accompanies without judging.

Key idea

Faith is lived in community and can be accompanied when it goes through a stage of doubt.

Your challenge for this idea

Ask a person of faith today to pray with you about a doubt you find hard to carry alone.
