Does love forever exist?
Wanting "forever" seems naive, but without that desire there is no love.
All of us, when we truly love, want it to last forever. At the same time we see couples break apart and doubt enters our minds: could it be an illusion, something that is said and then not fulfilled? It is hard to believe in "forever" surrounded by so many endings.
Yet notice this: that desire for it not to end, even if it seems hardly logical, is precisely what distinguishes love from a simple enthusiasm. If you do not care whether it lasts or not, that may be attraction, habit, whatever you like, but not love. The longing for always is not naivety: it is the mark that it is real love.
And it is not a rare exception reserved for a lucky few. Thousands of people love each other for a lifetime; it is real and within your reach. The good question is not "does it exist?", but "on what do you build it?"
Key idea
The desire for "forever" is not naive: it is what distinguishes love from mere enthusiasm.
Your challenge for this idea
Think of a relationship you want to last, and make a gesture today that builds it, not just enjoys it.
