Do not use God for your plans

Mark as read

Faith twists when God ceases to be someone and becomes a tool.

Several accounts tell of attempts to use a Host in spells, potions, or personal schemes. The gravest thing was not merely superstition: God was treated like a force that could be manipulated to obtain a result. That temptation can appear in less flashy ways. Praying to control another person, promising something like someone signing a business deal, or getting angry because God did not follow your script turns the relationship into a technique. Christian prayer asks with trust, but does not compel. It presents desire and leaves room for an answer that can correct you. God is not an instrument of your plans; he is someone with whom you learn to live.

Key idea

Praying is entering into relationship with God, not learning to manage him.

Your challenge for this idea

Reformulate a petition today by adding sincerely: "and teach me also to accept your way."
