Christ whole in every fragment
A broken Host does not divide Christ into pieces.
St. Catherine explained the Eucharist with the image of a mirror: even if it breaks, the complete image appears in every fragment. Christ is whole under every part of the consecrated species, not divided into portions.
This clarifies why the Church takes care of even the smallest fragments.
It is not scrupulosity or an obsession with matter. It is born of believing that visible size does not measure the presence of the One who gives himself. It also corrects our imagination. When receiving communion you do not receive a small part of God because the Host is small. You receive Christ whole, with a closeness that does not depend on centimeters or quantities.
