Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque received extraordinary mystical gifts and private revelations from Jesus Christ. We reproduce here the celebrated “Twelve Promises of the Sacred Heart” which our Lord revealed to the saint: 1. I will give to the devotees of my Sacred Heart all the graces necessary for their state of life (Letter 141) 2. I will establish and maintain peace in their families (Letter 35) 3. I will console them in all their afflictions (Letter 141) 4. I will be their secure refuge in life, and above all at the hour of death (Letter 141)
Saint Claude de la Colombière
5. I will bestow abundant blessings upon all their labors and undertakings (Letter 141) 6. Sinners shall find in my Heart an inexhaustible ocean of mercy (Letter 132) 7. Tepid souls shall become fervent through the practice of this devotion (Letter 132) 8. Fervent souls shall ascend rapidly to great perfection (Letter 132) 9. My blessing will remain upon any place where an image of my Sacred Heart is exposed and venerated (Letter 35)
10. To all those who labor for the salvation of souls, I will grant the power to touch the most hardened hearts (Letter 141) 11. Those who propagate this devotion will have their names written permanently in my Heart, never to be effaced (Letter 141) 12. I promise, in the excessive mercy of my Heart, that my all-powerful love will grant to all those who receive Holy Communion on the First Fridays of nine consecutive months the grace of final perseverance and eternal salvation (Letter 86)
Jesus remains in the Sacrament of the Eucharist, wherein divine love holds Him captive like a victim ever ready to be immolated for the glory of His Father and our salvation. His life is entirely hidden from the eyes of the world, which perceive only the poor and humble species of bread and wine. (...) Jesus is constantly abandoned in the Blessed Sacrament. Do everything in your power never to lose a single Holy Communion; there is no other way to grant greater delight to our mortal enemy, the devil! SAINT MARGARET MARY ALACOQUE.
We ardently desire that all who fight actively to establish the Kingdom of Jesus in the world take the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus as their glorious standard. (...) Desiring to oppose an insurmountable barrier to the impious plots of the enemies of God and the Church, and to bring families and nations back to the love of God and neighbor, we hold up devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus as the most efficacious school of divine charity—that very charity upon which the Kingdom of God must be established in individual souls, in family life, and across society.
(Pope Pius XII, Haurietis aquas, 82-83)
The Church desires even more earnestly to exhort the faithful to approach this Holy Mystery with filial confidence, and to enflame their hearts ever more intensely with the fires of that divine charity which burned within the Sacred Heart when, in His infinite love, He instituted the Most Blessed Eucharist.
Pope Benedict XV: “The Church, true minister of the Blood of Redemption, was born from the pierced Heart of the Redeemer, and from that same Heart the grace of the Sacraments, which confers eternal life upon the children of the Church, has poured forth in overflowing abundance.”
