Your work is the place of your holiness

Sometimes we imagine that the spiritual is somewhere else: in the church, on a retreat, far from the daily bustle. But for most people, the path toward God runs right through where you are: your work, your home, your relationships. It is not about 'entering' the sacred and leaving the rest outside. It is about living well and with love the things of every day, and letting that very thing unite you to God. The world is not an obstacle to holiness: it is its terrain. That removes the double life of 'God's moment' and 'the rest.' Everything counts: effort well made, careful dealings, duties fulfilled. There, without changing location, you become better and more of God.
