Your phone is deciding your life

Mark as read

It is not just a tool: it also shapes your habits.

The phone is a useful tool, but it can also accustom you to not bearing a single minute of waiting, silence, or concentration. If you check it without deciding to, little by little your attention stops obeying you. It is not just a matter of productivity. Constant distraction impoverishes conversations, work, rest, and turning to God. It is hard to truly listen to someone when part of you is always waiting for the next stimulus. Temperance does not reject technology: it puts it in its place. Regaining control starts with simple and visible limits. When you choose when to use the phone, you recover space to think, serve, look others in the eye, and be before God without immediately fleeing from silence.

Key idea

Freedom grows when you learn to master your attention.

Your challenge for this idea

Leave the phone out of reach for one hour. And do a single thing calmly and attentively.
