Your health is on loan, not a possession

Mark as read

Health is not yours forever: it has been lent to you.

We take the body for granted until something breaks down. Walking, seeing, sleeping, breathing without thinking: we treat these as guaranteed property, as if they were owed to us. And then a pain comes, a bad test result, a scare, and you suddenly remember that none of it was assured. Seeing it as a loan is not meant to make you live in fear, but with open eyes. What is lent is appreciated and cared for, not wasted or taken for granted. Health is a gift that one day is returned; knowing this does not embitter you, it wakes you up. That changes where you focus. Instead of fixating only on what is failing or what you dislike about your body, you can be grateful for what it still lets you do and use it well while you have it: to live, to love, to be with your own.

Key idea

Health is a gift on loan; being grateful for it and making the most of it changes how you live it.

Your challenge for this idea

Today be specifically grateful for something your body lets you do—walking, seeing, embracing—instead of fixating only on what is failing.
