Your friend having other friends takes nothing from you

Mark as read

Jealousy in friendship exists, even though hardly anyone admits it.

Your best friend starts hanging out with new people, gets a girlfriend or joins another group. And a fear appears that's a bit embarrassing: being replaced. It shows in you straight away: reproaches, coldness, pointed comments. But affection isn't used up by being shared. Your friend loving other people doesn't erase what the two of you have, and each friendship gives different things. Telling them you miss them is legitimate; controlling whom they spend time with isn't. You can even go further: get to know those new friends without seeing them as rivals. Perhaps they give your friend something good that you can't. A secure friendship doesn't need to be the only one.

Key idea

A real friendship is glad that your friend has more people who love them.

Your challenge for this idea

If it has bothered you that a friend spends time with others, instead of reproaching them, tell them you'd like to see them and suggest a plan.
