Your distractions reveal where your heart is
What invades your turning to God can be noise, but also a clue.
When you try to turn to God and tasks, conversations, or fears appear, it is easy to treat each distraction as a failure. You get angry with yourself, push it away, and it returns with more force.
Some distractions are simple tiredness or digital habit. Others signal something you are attached to, a concern that needs to be brought before God, or a responsibility you need to attend to afterwards. Listening to them for a moment can turn the obstacle into matter for turning to God.
It is not about following any thought or abandoning the encounter. You can name it—'this worries me,' 'this attracts me too much'—place it before the Lord, and return. Fidelity does not consist of a perfectly empty mind, but of coming back again and again with more truth.
Key idea
Distractions can help uncover attachments and concerns to bring before God.
Your challenge for this idea
In your next time of turning to God, note the distraction that repeats the most, present it to God in a sentence, and return to the dialogue.
