Your body also has a future

Many people believe that faith promises 'that the soul goes to heaven,' as if the body were a disposable wrapper. The Creed says something greater: I believe in the resurrection of the body. As Christ rose with his body—he ate with his own, he let them touch his wounds—you will not be eternally a faceless spirit: God will also raise your body, transformed and glorious. That changes how you see it now. The body is not the prison of the soul nor a machine to be discarded: it is part of you forever. That is why Christianity takes it so seriously: it cares for it without idolizing it, respects it in others, and treats even the bodies of the deceased with reverence. Your hands, your face, your scars have a future. What you do with the body—embracing, working, caring, resting—is not the 'lower' part of your life: it is the stuff of eternity.
