You don't need to finish the speech

What stops many people from going to confession is not knowing what to say, or fear of how God will take what they've done. So they prepare explanations, justifications, phrases so as not to look so bad. And they keep putting it off. You do need to say your sins, of course. But forgiveness begins before you finish speaking. God comes out to meet you as soon as you set off, like a father who sees his son coming from far off and doesn't wait for him to knock on the door. You're not going to a courtroom: you're coming home. If you don't know how to begin, it's enough to say so. The rest falls into place along the way.
