You aren't the best judge of yourself

Mark as read

You don't even really know what your voice sounds like: you need a recording to hear it.

When you hear your recorded voice, you almost never recognize yourself. Something similar happens with the image we have of ourselves: sometimes we see ourselves as much better than we are and, often, as quite a lot worse. Nobody is a good judge in their own case. Really knowing yourself calls for other eyes: those of friends who love you and tell you things straight, those of someone who accompanies you in your spiritual life and, above all, God's. In prayer you can ask him how he sees you, since he knows you completely and loves you. That doesn't mean living dependent on any opinion. Some judgments are better set aside because they don't know you or come from twisted criteria. But whoever only listens to themselves usually ends up either very conceited or very crushed.

Key idea

To know yourself well you need the gaze of those who love you and, above all, God's.

Your challenge for this idea

Today, ask someone you trust what good they see in you that you don't value.
