You are not evil by nature
Christianity speaks of an original wound, not a humanity made poorly.
The account of original sin begins by affirming that creation and human nature are good. Intellect, freedom, and the physical body come from God.
Evil does not belong to the design as if it were a necessary piece.
The Fall left a real wound: disorder, suffering, and an inclination that makes choosing well more difficult.
Yet human nature was not destroyed or turned into pure corruption. You remain capable of truth, beauty, friendship, and sincere dedication.
This outlook avoids two extremes. You are not flawless inside, but neither are you a lost cause. You need redemption precisely because there is a wounded good that God wants to heal, not throw into the trash.
Key idea
Human nature is good, even though it is wounded and needs grace to heal.
Your challenge for this idea
Faced with a defect of yours today, distinguish between the wound you must work on and the good that remains present.
