Why is Sunday Mass obligatory?
What is obligatory is not always less loving.
Sunday Mass is obligatory because worshipping God is no minor matter. We are creatures, we receive everything from him, and we need to return to the center every single week.
The obligation does not claim to replace love, but to protect it when our spirits flag. Just as we look after important commitments even when we do not feel like doing so, the Church guards an enormous good for the soul with this command.
The key is not to use doubt as an excuse to remain idle. A question well lived can bring you closer to God if asked with humility, if it seeks truth, and if it is willing to change something when it finds light.
Key idea
