Why pleasure is not enough
Pleasure is good, but it is not meant to occupy the center of your life.
Enjoying good things is a natural part of life. The problem appears when you turn pleasure into the measure of everything: then you need more each time, and it satisfies you less each time.
Temperance does not consist in living a dull life, but in putting each thing in its proper place. What truly fulfills is not consuming more, but loving better, building something good, and living with meaning.
Created goods are good, but they become fragile when you ask them for a fullness they cannot contain. The human heart always needs a greater horizon.
Key idea
Pleasure is properly ordered when it does not rule over your life.
Your challenge for this idea
Give up a small comfort today. Use that time or energy to do something good for someone else.
