Why does God give commandments?
A warning is not an enemy of your freedom.
God does not command because he needs to control everything. He commands because he knows man's good better than we do and wants to prevent us from harming ourselves.
The commandments do not make evil things bad; they show what already destroys from within: lying, using others, stealing, forgetting God. The divine law illuminates the way so that freedom does not lose itself in whims.
It does not help to close this question with a quick phrase. If it arises, it can be a good occasion to form your faith better, ask for counsel, and reflect more calmly. The Church does not fear honest questions; what impoverishes is not wanting to search sincerely.
