When you're afraid to talk about God

Mark as read

The apostles went from hiding to speaking in the street. It wasn't a motivational talk: it was the Holy Spirit.

After Jesus' death, the apostles lived behind closed doors out of fear. At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came down upon them and the change was immediate: the same men who days before had been hiding went out to speak about Christ in the middle of the street. Nobody had given them a public speaking course. They were still fishermen, with their accents and their limitations. What changed was that they were no longer alone inside. Many people feel awkward about their faith showing: people knowing they go to Mass, that they pray, that they think differently on some issues. It's normal to feel that fear. The way out isn't faking courage, but asking for it. The Holy Spirit still gives ordinary people the strength to say naturally what they believe.

Key idea

You don't manufacture the courage to live your faith openly: you ask the Holy Spirit for it.

Your challenge for this idea

Today, ask the Holy Spirit for courage and, if the chance comes up, don't hide that you're a believer.
