When will the end of the world be?
Be wary of anyone who gives you a date: Jesus said nobody knows it.
Every so often someone announces the end of the world for a specific day. The date passes and nothing happens. Jesus had already warned: "But of that day and hour no one knows" (Mt 24:36). It will come unexpectedly.
Faith does say what will happen: Christ will return in glory, the dead will rise and there will be a final judgment. But it gives no calendar. And not to annoy us: if we knew the date, we would live leaving everything for the last moment.
Advent begins by recalling this second coming. Not to frighten us, but so that we live awake: like someone waiting for a loved one who has the house ready every day, not just the day before.
Key idea
Not knowing when the end will come is an invitation to live ready every day.
Your challenge for this idea
Ask yourself today what you would set right if you knew Christ was coming back this week, and start with one thing.
