What have you put at the center?
Whatever you decide everything for is, in fact, your god.
We all organize life around something we place above all else: money, image, success, approval. That 'something' acts as your ultimate end: you decide, prioritize, and suffer depending on whether it draws you closer or pulls you away. The question is not whether you have a center, but which one.
The problem is placing at the center what cannot sustain an entire life. When the ultimate end is fragile, everything else goes crooked and you end up enslaved to what promised to fulfill you. Fame, power, or pleasure demand more and more, leaving an emptiness.
The first commandment is precisely about this: only God holds that place without disappointing. Putting God at the center does not take away the rest; it gives it its proper measure.
