Ugly things can also stop attracting you
The moral struggle does not end with always gritting your teeth; it can also educate your taste.
At first, avoiding harmful behavior may require continuous effort. Desire continues to present it as attractive and the good seems merely a prohibition.
Habits, environment, and grace can transform that perception. When you experience the peace of sincerity, the freedom of sobriety, or the beauty of a clean love, what used to enslave you loses part of its shine.
Not every impulse disappears, nor is it wise to become overconfident. But moral formation includes feeding the imagination with true goods, removing triggers, and creating positive experiences of virtue. God does not want only resentful obedience. He can heal affections so that the heart recognizes as beautiful what reason has already learned to choose.
Key idea
Moral education and grace can transform affections so that the good becomes more attractive and disorder loses part of its allure.
Your challenge for this idea
For one week, reduce a stimulus that glamorizes a harmful habit and replace it with a concrete experience of the opposite good.
