Take care of your health without idolizing it
Your body is a gift to care for, not an idol to serve.
Your life and health are a gift of which you are a steward, not absolute owner. That is why caring for them is a healthy duty: eating and drinking with moderation, resting, not risking your life through recklessness, not consuming what destroys you. Temperance is not a killjoy: it saves you much suffering.
But there is an opposite extreme: turning the body, image, or physical performance into an idol that governs everything. Taking care of yourself is good; living as a slave to the mirror or gym is not. Health is a great good, not the supreme good.
The right balance is treating your body with respect and gratitude, without neglecting it and without worshiping it. Neither abandonment nor obsession: serene care.
