Stop living in "if only"

Mark as read

"If only I had another life" is the best way to miss this one.

There is a very common trap: living in "if only." If only I had another job, better health, more money, a different age, another family. Meanwhile, real life—the only one you have—passes by, dismissed for not resembling the imagined one. St. Josemaría called it "if-only mysticism": dreaming of circumstances you do not have instead of living the ones you do. And he warned of something important: God is not in that ideal life you fantasize about, but in this one, with its messes and limits. Here, not elsewhere. It is not about resigning yourself, but about stopping waiting for everything to change before beginning to live. Your good life is not in another place or another moment: it is in what you have in front of you today, if you decide to take it seriously.

Key idea

God and your good life are in your real circumstances, not in the ones you imagine.

Your challenge for this idea

Replace an "if only..." today with "with what I have, what can I do today?"
