Some things you wait for while praying

Mark as read

Between the Ascension and Pentecost, the apostles didn't scatter: they stayed praying with Mary.

Before ascending into heaven, Jesus asked his followers not to leave Jerusalem and to wait for what the Father had promised. They didn't really know what was going to happen or when. They went back to the upper room and there they devoted themselves together to prayer, with Mary, the mother of Jesus (Acts 1:14). They didn't stay still out of fear, nor did each one go his own way. They waited together, praying. And the Holy Spirit came like that, to a community that had been asking for days. Some things you can't speed up: a decision you don't see clearly yet, a healing, a change in someone you love. Waiting while praying, and better still with others, isn't wasting time: it's preparing yourself to receive whatever comes.

Key idea

Some waiting is better lived praying and in company.

Your challenge for this idea

Today, with a short prayer, ask the Holy Spirit for light about something you're waiting for, and repeat it over the coming days.
