Some days, taking a shower is already a lot
When you're really struggling, the measure of the day changes.
In a depression or a very dark stretch, things you used to do without thinking become an uphill climb: getting up, showering, eating something decent, answering a message. And on top of that you compare yourself with the person you were before and feel you're doing nothing.
But that day you did do something. Getting out of bed when everything weighs so much is a real effort, even if no one sees it. This isn't the time for big goals, but for small steps: a short walk, a meal, a phone call.
This doesn't replace treatment or any help you may need; it goes along with it. And God doesn't measure you by what you used to accomplish: he sees today's effort, however small it seems to you.
Key idea
On dark days, every small step is a real effort that counts.
Your challenge for this idea
If you're going through a rough patch, write down tonight three small things you managed to do today.
