Security allows you to take reasonable risks

Every important decision involves uncertainty. If your security depends on never being wrong, you will seek impossible guarantees, postpone, or let others choose for you in order to keep your image intact. Healthy confidence does not promise success. It relies on knowing you will be able to respond: seek advice, use proportionate means, and adjust if new facts appear. A potential mistake ceases to be a personal catastrophe. Prudence does not mean waiting until risk is eliminated. It consists in knowing it, weighing it against the good sought, and acting when there is sufficient light. Knowing that your dignity survives a failure frees you to undertake, learn, and serve in areas where no one has total certainty.
