Right not to flee
What is fair would be that no one had to escape in order to live.
When someone migrates out of necessity, they do not just leave a place. Sometimes they leave family, language, memories, security, and a part of their story.
Welcoming the newcomer is important, but so is desiring a world where no one has to flee because of hunger, war, persecution, or lack of a future.
The Christian perspective does not stay in cold debates. It asks what conditions a person needs to live with dignity in their own homeland.
Key idea
Justice seeks to welcome those who arrive and build conditions so that no one has to flee.
