Pride can disguise itself as justice

Indignation at an injustice can prompt a necessary response. It can also be mixed with revenge, a desire to humiliate others, or satisfaction from belonging to the right group. Examining your intention does not weaken the cause. It helps you choose means consistent with the good you defend. If to demand dignity you destroy the dignity of your opponent, something has become disordered. Humility allows you to act with firmness while simultaneously recognizing a part of yourself that needs correction. It does not turn everything gray, nor does it avoid naming evil. It prevents using the truth as a pedestal. Mature justice seeks to repair and protect, not to feed a sense of moral superiority.
