Prayer is relationship, not technique

Sometimes prayer gets blocked because you try to come up with brilliant words or feel something special. But praying is not executing a technique. It is dealing with God: praising, thanking, asking for pardon, telling what worries you, and learning to listen. As in any true friendship, sincerity matters far more than appearances. You can arrive distracted, tired, or feeling little desire and say exactly that. God does not need a polished version of your life. Prayer matures when it holds a real time within your day. Not to isolate you from your duties, but to live them with greater unity. Speaking with God enlightens work, decisions, and how you love others. Five faithful minutes can open a very wide door.
