A prayer can support someone you do not know

Mark as read

The Church is larger than your circle: your prayer can reach where your hands cannot.

The communion of saints means that Christians do not live their faith as isolated islands. Each person's prayer, the sacraments, and individual acts of charity benefit the whole body, even when we cannot trace the ongoing journey of that good. This is not some magical accounting, nor is it an excuse to neglect concrete assistance. It is a genuine spiritual solidarity: what you do with love is never entirely locked inside your own bedroom, your family, or your city. A Mass, a quiet sacrifice, or ordinary work offered up can unite with needs that you cannot see. This gives a broader horizon to fidelities that receive no human applause. You may never know the final outcome, but that does not make your self-giving sterile. In the Church, even the most discreet good can circulate like life-giving blood supporting a distant part of the very same body.
