The Our Father orders your identity

You can approach God with an urgent list of solutions. Jesus begins in a different way: "Our Father." Before asking for bread, forgiveness, or protection, he places your whole life within a shared sonship. "Father" prevents living as a spiritual orphan who must earn every single good. "Our" prevents turning faith into an individual shelter. You pray alongside people you love and others whom you find it hard to recognize as brothers and sisters. This identity reorganizes the petitions. You no longer speak before an anonymous force or seek isolated advantages, but the good of children sharing the very same home. Praying those two words slowly can correct anxiety, self-sufficiency, and contempt. Prayer begins by recalling the relationship from which all of life receives its true name.
