Optimism is not naivety

Christian optimism does not consist in repeating that everything will go well without looking at reality. It rests on a firmer truth: God acts, good exists, and it is always possible to take a right step. That is why it avoids two extremes: the defeatism that paralyzes and the fantasy that does no work. Authentic hope looks at the problem and still seeks the possible good. It is not about denying what you feel or living with a mask. It is about giving emotion its proper place: listening to it, naming it, looking at it with truth, and deciding afterwards with greater freedom. Feeling something very strongly does not mean it must rule.
